The History of the Faculty of Fisheries and Protection of Waters, University of South Bohemia in České Budějovice, reaches up to 1921, when the Research Institute of Fish Culture and Hydrobiology was estabilished in Prague under the auspices of the Ministry of Agriculture of the Czechoslovakia. In 1953 the Research Institute of Fish Culture and Hydrobiology was moved to Vodňany in South Bohemia, where its own experimental base was being built. It has been profiled as the workplace mostly focused on applied research in the field of fisheries and related disciplines as hydrobiology, fish disease, genetics and fish breeding, free waters farming.
In 1996 the Research Institute of Fish Culture and Hydrobiology was transfered as a separate university institute to the University of South Bohemia in České Budějovice. Aim of the activities of the Research Institute of Fish Culture and Hydrobiology is long-term developed and internationally highly regarded scientific, especially applied research, co-creating the world trend in the field of biological, environmental and breeding aspects of fisheries by maintaining hydrocenosis biodiversity. The institute builds especially on an extensive international inovative research of biological type (model species of fish and crayfish), a water environment protection (diagnostics of pollutants levels) or on a breeding research focused on fisheries (significant fish species), including research of quality and safety of food.
From 2009 the Research Institute of Fish Culture and Hydrobiology together with the Institute of Aquaculture (former fishery department of the Faculty of Agriculture USB) has became a part of the new estabilished Faculty of Fisheries and Protection of Waters, University of South Bohemia in České Budějovice. This faculty was established with the aim of providing more comprehensive education of bachleor´s, master´s and doctor´s students of the study field „Fishery“ and new accredited study field „Protection of Waters“.
Apart from classical scientific and research activities, the faculty broadens its sphere of activity into the field of education. It´s going not only about realisation of postgraduate study programmes, but also about realisation of different courses, programmes, international conferences and informational actions in the field of lifelong learning focused on different target groups, which are connected by a professional or a non-professional (it means hobby) interest in a water management and a water protection. Under these activities some significant projects were realised, what led not only to broadening the network of collaborating subjects, but to the common formulation and sharing of the idea building up the educational, public educational, information and advisory center focused on the water issues and providing its services to the broad spectrum of age different target goups.
IEEAIC deals with these activities:
- searching and processing projects from structural funds of the EU and other national and international grants, administrative providing of realised projects;
- preparing of marketing plans and strategies of the faculty ;
- administrative and methodical support in the project management;
- preparing and realisation of tenders;
- service development and support of foreign relationships;
- publishing activities – annual reports, specialized publications, university textbooks, methodical and technological handbooks etc.;
- preparation and organisation of activities connected with the lifelong learning – organising conferences, workshops etc.;
- providing promotional and presentation activities, e.g. trade fairs, expositions, „Fishing days of the Vodňany town“;
- open days etc.;
- preparation of faculty promotional materials;
- e-shop administration;
- active searching for contacts and new business opportunities for expansion of contract research at the faculty;
- business negotiations with customers, preparation of business offers and contracts;
- monitoring of customer needs in the field of applied research.
IEEAIC offers following services for public as well:
- advisory services in the field of water protection, water animals and environmental-friendly water management;
- providing of specialised educational courses, seminars, workshops and conferences for schools, organisations, public services and public;
- accommodation and renting (assembly hall, lecture rooms), including supporting services;
- gastronomy services (providing of catering in the course of the event);
- administrative and metodological support of the project management (searching and processing the projects under the terms of the EU structural funds and other national and international grants);
- providing and realisation of tenders.
